Scott Kazmir's lack of velocity gives Dodgers cause for concern

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Scott Kazmir’s optimism remains strong. His velocity? Not so much.

The Dodgers’ wayward left-hander took his search for clarity to a back field during Thursday’s workout and threw the equivalent of five innings to minor-league hitters Jacob Scavuzzo, Mike Ahmed and Gersel Pitre.

“I feel close, really close,” Kazmir said after the workout, calling it marked progress as he searches for a clean delivery and the elimination of “bad habits” created by last season’s physical issues.

“I was able to keep my tempo, keep my balance and use this hip to get through.
