SAN FRANCISCO – Ross Stripling said the two worst days of his life were probably the times each of the past two Aprils when Dodgers minor-leaguers broke camp in Arizona and he had to stay behind to rehab following Tommy John surgery.
There is a now a shorter list for the best day of his life -- and maybe another contender for the other list.
The right-hander from Texas A&M had never thrown a pitch above Double-A before Friday night at AT&T Park -- and only 71 1/3 innings since that surgery two years ago. But he held the San Francisco Giants hitless into the eighth inning in his major-league debut, threatening to join the wonderfully-named Bumpus Jones of the 1892 Cincinnati Reds as the only pitchers to throw no-hitters in a major-league debut.
