Rays use three-run fourth inning to beat the Dodgers, 3-1

The Dodgers lost to the lowly Tampa Bay Rays, 3-1, on Wednesday in a clunker of a game that prevented them from gaining ground on the first-place San Francisco Giants in the National League West.

Rays left-hander Matt Moore (7-7) gave up one unearned run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings, and Tampa Bay (39-61) bunched three hits in a three-run fourth inning off Dodgers starter Brandon McCarthy.

The Giants lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 2-1, but the Dodgers, who mustered only five hits — all singles — and failed to advance a runner to second base from the second through ninth innings, remained 2 1/2 games back.
