Possible meteor lights up Southern California skies

A bright light, a possible meteor, lit up the skies Monday night over Southern California, according to the National Weather Service.

A weather spotter reported around 9:30 p.m. seeing a fireball above Interstate 15 near Hesperia north of Cajon Pass, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Greg Martin.

The bright streak was also seen by Lynne Thompson, who lives on Paseo Espada in San Juan Capistrano. The fireball streaked across the sky in her quiet neighborhood for about 8 seconds.

“Zig zaggy orange flames were coming off of it as it scooted by,” she said Monday night of the flash.
