Months after they played their final collegiate basketball games, Mychal Thompson and his son Klay were starting in the NBA. Both were first-round draft picks, rushed into a spotlight only a little bigger than the ones they enjoyed at the University of Minnesota and Washington State, respectively.
Trayce, the youngest of former Laker Mychal’s three sons, was the only one who chose baseball over basketball. He was not rushed — quite the opposite, in fact.
A second-round draft pick out of Rancho Santa Margarita High School in 2009, Trayce Thompson was stalled at Double-A in the Chicago White Sox system not long ago.
