In a development that seemingly came out of the blue on Wednesday morning, outfielder Mookie Betts and the Dodgers are reportedly close to finalizing a mammoth, multi-year contract extension.
According to Jon Heyman’s latest reports, the agreement is for 12 years and $350 million on top of the $27 million salary that Betts is receiving this year. The average annual value of the deal calculates to just over $31.6 million per season.
As far as the richest, active contracts go in the majors, the $377 million promised to the 27-year-old Betts would be the second-highest deal, landing him smack dab in between Mike Trout‘s $426.
