No clue. It was my first book, so honestly I was just trying to finish it so I wouldn’t have to give the advance back! I was never someone who looked at those lists, so when my editor told me that sales were strong and I had a shot at making it I was blown away. I had a sense that a lot of people would enjoy my book, because a lot of crazy things happen in it, but so many beautifully written books sell like five copies for whatever reason. I just wanted to write something I was proud of because what happens next is out of the writer’s control.
