PHOENIX – You know how your car stops making that thwack-squeak-thump sound just when you’re ready to take it into the mechanic? The Dodgers offense is making that sound again.
Just as the non-waiver trade deadline approached, that offense was running more smoothly than it has all season during a 25-game stretch before the All-Star break. The Dodgers even scored 12 runs in their first six innings on Friday night. Over the next 22 innings, though, they managed just two runs at hitter-friendly Chase Field, slipping back into gear too late to salvage a 6-5 loss Sunday afternoon.
