The Dodgers’ equipment men didn’t even pretend. They didn’t give Corey Seager one of those defensive-tackle numbers, the ones that put a rookie in his subservient place. They found No. 5 for the kid shortstop. No use fooling anyone.
Seager, who turned 21 last Thursday, was billed as the turn-key player in all of minor league baseball. He hasn’t been up here for a week yet, but he has four doubles and the air of a guy who will not see Oklahoma City again.
No. 5 was on the back of Mike Marshall, the outfielder, and Cookie Lavagetto.
