Long ball bites listless L.A. Dodgers, who lose 6-2 to Giants

Giant killers, the Dodgers are not.

As it was a night earlier, it was the long ball that beat Los Angeles on Saturday. This time it was two-run home runs by Justin Maxwell and Brandon Belt that lifted the Giants to a 6-2 victory over the Dodgers before a sellout crowd of 53,123 at Dodger Stadium.

Maxwell’s blast in the fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie and Belt’s smash the next inning added more than enough insurance against a Dodgers team struggling to score runs.

San Francisco (38-32), which has won three consecutive games and four of five, is now just a half-game behind the first-place Dodgers (38-31) in the NL West.
