Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was named Sporting News’ 2016 National League Manager of the Year on Monday. The award was voted on by the other National League managers.
Roberts’ club finished with a 91-71 record in his first season as a manager at any level. He joined Tommy Lasorda (1977) as the only rookie managers ever to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a division title.
“Obviously I’m biased but I would be absolutely shocked if he didn’t win the Manager of the Year award,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Saturday, after the Dodgers’ season-ending loss to the Chicago Cubs.
