The Dodgers have committed approximately $54 million in 2015 salaries to players not on their roster:
Matt Kemp, Padres: $18 million
Dan Haren, Cubs: $10 million
Dee Gordon, Marlins: $2.5 million
Brian Wilson, free agent: $9.5 million
Brandon League, free agent: $8.5 million
The headline of the deadline read that the Dodgers traded for eight players before 1 p.m. Friday. In that regard, they behaved as a contending team should this time of year, as traditional thinking goes.
A closer look reveals it wasn’t that simple.
One of those eight players, veteran outfielder/first baseman Mike Morse, was traded for another, minor leaguer Jose Tabata.
