LOS ANGELES — Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen won the 2017 Trevor Hoffman Award, given annually to the top relief pitcher in the National League. He was presented with the award before Game 4 of the World Series in Houston.
The reliever of the year awards — the American League honor is named after Mariano Rivera — are voted on by a panel of former relief pitchers. The group is comprised of Rivera, Hoffman, Rollie Fingers, Bruce Sutter, Dennis Eckersley, John Franco, Lee Smith and Billy Wagner.
“This is awesome,” Jansen said.
