Kemp boosts All-Star profile with pinch-hit slam

NEW YORK -- Matt Kemp interrupted his day of rest Saturday by slugging a grand slam off Robert Gsellman as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning to give the Dodgers an 8-2 lead over the Mets.

It was the 13th home run of the season for Kemp, who also has a team-high 47 RBIs in a stunning comeback season after being reacquired by the Dodgers in the off-season as part of a mega-salary swap with the Braves.

Kemp, runner-up for the National League MVP in 2011, is also back in the MVP conversation with the season he's having for the Dodgers, as he's picked up a major share of the offensive load with Corey Seager out for the season and Justin Turner still trying to find his power swing after returning from a broken wrist.
