Along with making their signing of former Washington Nationals relief pitcher Marc Rzepczynski official, the Seattle Mariners announced the signing of Casey Fien, who spent the 2016 season with the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers claimed Fien off waivers from the Twins in May. At the time he had a 7.90 ERA, 6.73 FIP, 1.76 WHIP and had allowed five home runs in 13.2 innings pitched over 14 games. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and third baseman Justin Turner were optimistic Fien would contribute, citing his competitiveness.
Fien appeared in one game with Triple-A Oklahoma City, then was sent outright to the Minors after clearing waivers.
