Errant throw in bullpen knocks out Dodgers pitcher Pedro Baez

ATLANTA >> Pedro Baez wasn’t available to pitch in relief Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves because he was hit in the back of his head by an errant throw in the Dodgers’ bullpen.

Adam Liberatore’s second warm-up toss in the fourth inning sailed high out of his left hand, over the bullpen catcher, and struck Baez sitting on an elevated bench beyond the left-field fence.

“He didn’t go down,” Liberatore recalled. “He just put his head down. I was like, ‘Oh (expletive).’”

Baez underwent tests as a precautionary measure.

“I talked to him,” Roberts said of Baez.
