For the 28th consecutive year the Los Angeles Dodgers have been knocked out of the playoffs, this time by the New York Mets. There will be no Champagne showers, no parade, no banner hoisted, or cherished memories passed from father to son.

With a payroll north of $300 million and A-list celebrities filling the best seats, it wasn’t supposed to end like this. Where was Magic Johnson’s magic? Where was Vinny’s voice? “Where have you gone, Kirk Gibson?”
