Dodgers' Zack Greinke has till Wednesday to exercise opt-out clause

LOS ANGELES – Baseball’s offseason officially began Monday morning – and the clock is ticking on Zack Greinke.

Three Dodgers – left-hander Brett Anderson, second baseman Howie Kendrick and shortstop Jimmy Rollins – were among the 139 players who officially became free agents with the conclusion of the World Series Sunday. Greinke could join them by Wednesday night.

Greinke has three days following the end of the World Series to exercise an opt-out clause in his six-year, $147 million contract. With that decision, Greinke would leave three years and $71 million on the table – a figure he would almost certainly be able to double by becoming a free agent.
