SAN DIEGO >> Opportunity knocked Thursday morning and Alex Verdugo almost slept through it.
Triple-A Oklahoma City manager Bill Haselman had to call twice to give Verdugo the news that he would be called up to the Dodgers when rosters expanded on Friday.
“I had missed the first one, picked up the second one,” Verdugo said. “He just told me all the hard work I had put in to the season, it all paid off because I’m going to the big leagues. My first reaction was, ‘You’re messing with me, right?’ He told me he wouldn’t mess around about that.
