SAN DIEGO >> Scott Baker will make his Dodgers debut as the starting pitcher today against the Padres at Petco Park.
Baker comes from Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he was 1-1 with a 1.06 earned-run average in three starts. He joined the team during batting practice Saturday.
“He’s been throwing the ball well,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “We’ve used a number of guys (to fill the fifth starter’s role with Hyun-Jin Ryu on the disabled list). All the guys we’ve used have been in the big leagues. They’ve got experience. Felt like they would give you a quality outing and weren’t going to be overwhelmed by that start.
