The Los Angeles Dodgers made several additions to their starting rotation over the offseason, most notably acquiring 2012 American League Cy Young Award winner and five-time All-Star David Price from the Boston Red Sox in a trade that also netted 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts.
Before that blockbuster came to fruition, the Dodgers had taken fliers on a couple of intriguing arms in free agency. Jimmy Nelson and Alex Wood were each signed to one-year contracts with the expectation that they would compete for the fifth spot in the starting rotation.
For Wood, it marked a return to the Dodgers just 13 months after he was traded by the organization in a salary-motivated deal with the Cincinnati Reds.
