The Dodgers had previously designated outfielder Steven Souza Jr for assignment earlier this month. After a handful of games with the big league club, they decided his spot on the 40-man roster would be better filled with an arm.
Souza had the opportunity to accept a minor league assignment from the team if he wanted to stick around. But it seems as though he either did not want to continue playing or was seeking an opportunity outside of the Dodgers. So they released him rather than sending him to Triple-A.
