The Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced the signing of Cole Hamels to a one-year contract. Yefry Ramirez was designated for assignment in order to make room for Hamels on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.
It’s unclear when the southpaw will join the team, but manager Dave Roberts identified what benefit would come from the Dodgers signing another starting pitcher amid injuries to Tony Gonsolin and Clayton Kershaw.
“I think it certainly would be helpful,” Roberts said an hour before the signing was finalized. “Obviously adding Max (Scherzer), and having Walker (Buehler) and Julio (Urias), and David (Price) has really stepped up and given us huge innings.
