During Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts was struck in the hand by a 98 mph fastball from Royals pitcher Dan Altavilla. Betts fell to the ground in pain, an injury later revealed to be a fractured hand.
Betts will not need surgery for the injury, but he is expected to miss at least several weeks, and up to a few months. The injury is also not season-ending, but Betts is headed to the injured list.
Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, who hit two home runs in the 3-0 win, spoke on Betts’ injury after the game.
