If you were wondering why the Dodgers hadn’t officially announced the signings of David Peralta and Alex Reyes yet, it’s because they didn’t have room on the 40-man roster. Making those signings official a couple days ago would have required designating someone for assignment to remove them from the roster.
But now that spring training has officially started, the 60-day injured list is now back in play. Players on the 60-day IL don’t count towards the 40-man roster limits, but the 60-day IL doesn’t exist in the offseason. Now that it does, Los Angeles made a flurry of moves on Thursday.
