LOS ANGELES – Until Monday, the Dodgers-Giants rivalry had been a bit one-sided this season. The Giants swept the Dodgers in their first visit to the Bay Area last week, adding three more victories to their bragging rights.
The Dodgers quieted any talk of dominance with an 8-3 victory against the Giants in their fourth meeting in less than a week.
Hours after losing starter Brandon McCarthy, who was declared out for the season because of a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, the Dodgers reached into their relief corps for help in beating their Northern California rivals.
