When Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin went on the injured list earlier this week, there was optimism from both Gonsolin and the Dodgers that he would miss the minimum required time.
That optimism took a bit of a hit on Thursday, when Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts gave an update on Gonsolin’s condition prior to the series finale in New York.
Some had even speculated that Gonsolin’s injury was more of an “injury,” a phantom IL stint designed to manage his workload heading into the postseason. It seems clear that, while the level of concern was low, the injury is very real, and we’re now forced to grapple with the possibility that it’s somewhat severe.
