The possibility of the Los Angeles Dodgers virtually winning a World Series this year came to an end Friday night as Gavin Lux was swept by the Tampa Bay Rays’ Blake Snell in the quarterfinals of the MLB The Show Players League playoffs.
Lux finished the regular season play 19-10 and qualified for the playoffs via the eighth and final spot. Snell went 24-5, finishing one game ahead of the Texas Rangers’ Joey Gallo and clinching the No. 1 overall seed.
Snell defeated Lux during the regular season and squeaked out a pair of one-run victories (3-2 and 5-4) to sweep the Dodgers’ top prospect in the playoffs.
