Miguel Vargas making the Opening Day roster was one of the bigger locks of spring for the Dodgers. The Dodgers were consistently working him at second base — a position they had a major need — and getting him reps even when he wasn’t able to swing the bat due to a right pinky injury.
Then, when he was finally allowed to swing, he instantly started raking, and proved that he was ready to take the big leagues by storm.
While Vargas was such a lock to make the roster, and the Dodgers had many other more pressing questions, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts forgot to ever inform Vargas that he was going to be on the Opening Day roster.
