Ahead of Friday night’s game in Kansas City, the Dodgers made a series of unexpected roster moves. First, the club placed catcher Austin Barnes on the family emergency list. In his place, catcher/infielder Tony Wolters was selected from triple-A Oklahoma City and added to the active roster.
The recently acquired Rylan Bannon was designated for assignment to make room for Wolters on the 40-man roster.
As of publishing time, there is no word as to what Barnes is dealing with, but we certainly wish him the best. In Wolters, the Dodgers have another veteran backstop to shadow Will Smith.
