The Dodgers had a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, needing just a few more innings to move to 18-2 in this dominant month of August.
Rookie RHP Bobby Miller was given the beginning of the seventh, but allowed two runners to reach with one out before being pulled. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts elected to go with LHP Caleb Ferguson to put out the fire, despite his struggles on the road in high-leverage situations this season.
Ferguson was able to record one out, but then gave up back-to-back RBI singles before serving up a three-run home run to recently-traded Dodger Kole Calhoun, which turned out to be the final dagger in the Dodgers’ eventual 8-3 loss.
