James Outman isn’t the only Dodger changing his number on opening day. Right-handed reliever Andre Jackson will also be switching his digits, going from uniform number 94 to 44 for opening day. Jackson, like Outman, made the opening day roster for the first time in his career.
The last player to wear number 44 was reliever Tommy Kahnle, who signed back with the Yankees this offseason. Jackson will be the 25th player in franchise history to don the number 44. He was the only player to ever wear number 94.
The 26-year-old earned a spot in the bullpen after a stellar spring where he allowed just 2 earned runs over 10 innings.
