Dodgers might be ready to sign another Cuban infielder

The Dodgers might be ready to dip back into the Cuban free agent market.

According to reports, Cuban infielder Jose Miguel Fernandez is near agreement on a minor-league contract with the Dodgers after being declared a free agent last April. Fernandez, 28, defected from Cuba in 2015 and has not played in Cuba's top league, Serie Nacional, since 2014 as punishment for a previous attempt to defect.

Because of his age and experience (seven seasons in Serie Nacionale), Fernandez's signing is not subject to the international bonus pool limits. The Dodgers are limited in what they can offer players subject to the bonus pool after exceeding their assigned cap in 2015.
