WASHINGTON, D.C. -- It was just past 11 a.m. Saturday in Los Angeles when Adrian Gonzalez hit a game-tying home run in the sixth inning of a game between the Dodgers and Washington Nationals.
That was just the beginning of an eventful three-and-a-half innings.
A two-run home run by pinch hitter Matt den Dekker off Dodgers pitcher Pedro Baez lifted Washington to a 5-3 victory in a very strange game.
The Nationals were leading 3-2 Friday night when the game was suspended after five innings. A faulty circuit breaker blacked out several banks of lights, which in turn caused two delays lasting more than two hours combined.
