LOS ANGELES >> The hairline fracture in Logan Forsythe’s toe was not very big. But it has left a deep gash in Forsythe’s batting average.
Almost two months after he was struck in the right foot by a pitch and suffered the fracture, Forsythe lugged a .196 batting average into Saturday’s game against the Cincinnat Reds. Since returning from a 30-game stay on the DL – longer than anticipated due to a concurrent hamstring injury – Forsythe has struggled even to put balls in play.
In 15 games before Saturday, Forsythe was 5 for 48 (.104) since coming off the DL with 19 strikeouts including 11 in his previous 22 at-bats.
