PHOENIX -- The Dodgers placed outfielder Trayce Thompson on the DL with lower back irritation Saturday and promoted infielder-outfielder Zach Walters from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Thompson had been dealing with the lower back problem for some time now. Coinciding with that, he has hit just .189 since the start of June with 11 hits in his last 77 at-bats (.143).
The DL move is backdated to Thompson's most recent appearance, last Sunday against the San Diego Padres. He will be eligible to return July 26.
Walters, 26, was acquired from the Cleveland Indians in April and has played seven positions for Triple-A Oklahoma City -- all four infield positions, left field, center field and even pitcher for 2/3 of an inning.
