LOS ANGELES -- Nearly 14 months after surgery on his pitching shoulder, Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu will return to the major leagues.
Ryu will start Thursday for the Dodgers against the San Diego Padres. It will be his first major-league action since Oct. 6, 2014 when he started Game 3 of the Dodgers' National League Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ryu's recovery from surgery to repair a torn labrum has been filled with setbacks. The original prognosis was that he would be ready to pitch during spring training before this season but he experienced renewed discomfort in his shoulder as he tried to build up and was also shut down with a groin injury at one point.
