Dodgers legend Maury Wills to be honored at annual gala

Dodgers president Stan Kasten will present veteran coach Maury Wills with a lifetime achievement award at the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation’s annual “In The Spirit of the Game” gala Saturday in Beverly Hills.

Wills, 83, won the 1962 National League MVP award after he stole a franchise-record 104 bases. A five-time All-Star, Wills’ 490 stolen bases also rank first in Dodgers history.

As a baserunning and bunting instructor in the Dodgers’ spring training camp, Wills has mentored leadoff hitters from Dee Gordon to Dave Roberts, who was recently named the Dodgers’ manager.

Besides Kasten and Wills, the event will be very Dodger-centric.
