Dodgers' Kenley Jansen was set to play with Aroldis Chapman

Kenley Jansen thought it was a done deal.

The Dodgers were trading for Aroldis Chapman, putting two of the National League’s best closers in one bullpen. The front office gave Jansen a courtesy call to let him know.

“I understand where they tried to go,” Jansen said Saturday at the Dodgers’ annual FanFest. “Tried to improve the team.”

Then, the deal was off. The Dodgers backed away in December when allegations that Chapman assaulted his girlfriend and fired a shotgun at their home were revealed in a report by Yahoo! Sports.

In the meantime, Chapman was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the New York Yankees.
