Just before the buzzer rang on the July 31st trade deadline, the Dodgers pulled off a buzzer-beating trade as they acquired Jedd Gyorko from the St. Louis Cardinals. The move seemed puzzling at first but given the struggles of Tyler White and the injuries to Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernandez, the move seems like a great insurance move now.
Gyorko will make his Dodger debut today and likely start at first base against the Braves southpaw starter Max Fried. This is the type of role that Gyorko can help the Dodgers out in, he has mashed left-handed pitching throughout his career.
