LOS ANGELES – As the back end of their starting rotation crumbled this season, the Dodgers have had to rebuild it on the fly with an assortment of castoffs (Scott Baker, David Huff and Mike Bolsinger) and only one homegrown pitcher (Carlos Frias) to try and fill the void.
If director of amateur scouting Billy Gasparino did his job well over the past three days, they won’t have to do that again. Running the Dodgers’ draft for the first time, Gasparino used 25 of their 42 picks on pitchers including four of the first five selections, starting with first-rounder Walker Buehler (24th overall) and Kyle Funkhouser (35th) in the compensation round.
