A weird streak has come to an end.
The Dodgers won the World Series in 2020. In the five years surrounding that, the team that eliminated them from the postseason won the World Series. So for six straight years — from 2016 through 2021 — the last team standing was either the Dodgers or a team that beat the Dodgers to get there.
In 2016, the Dodgers lost the NLCS to the Cubs, who went on to break their 108-year drought and win the World Series. In 2017 and 2018, L.A. lost the World Series, and we don’t want to talk about it.
