LOS ANGELES >> Dodgers pitcher Chris Hatcher leaned back in his chair Sunday and, with one simple question, defused the major point of intrigue surrounding this year’s amateur draft.
“Has anybody done it?” Hatcher asked.
No, the draft has not produced a man capable of full-time duty as a pitcher and a hitter in Major League Baseball. The first round begins Monday. The Dodgers draft 23rd overall.
By then, some team will have selected Notre Dame High School of Sherman Oaks star Hunter Greene and Louisville junior Brendan McKay. To this point in their careers, Greene and McKay have emerged as two-way stars, capable of greatness on a mound or in a batter’s box.
