Last Friday in Pittsburgh, Dodgers pitcher Joel Peralta spoke confidently about his recovery from a compressed nerve in his neck. The 39-year-old veteran had missed all of May and most of June with the injury, but his velocity was suddenly higher than it had been all season.
At the time — just a few days ago — Peralta said he was confident he could pitch another season in the major leagues at age 40.
