The Dodgers announced a swap of relief pitchers prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Cleveland Guardians. Right-hander Michael Peterson was designated for assignment while left-hander Nick Ramirez was promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City for the sixth time this season.
Teams are limited to optioning players to the minors five times in a calendar year. That was no obstacle for the Dodgers and Ramirez, who designated for assigment on July 30, outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Aug. 2, and now returns as the Dodgers will add him to their 40-man and 28-man rosters for Sunday’s game.
In order to clear the 40-man roster spot, Peterson was DFA’d for the first time since the Dodgers selected his contract in June.
