In response to the deadly shootings in Uvalde, Texas this week, Giants manager Gabe Kapler stated that he won’t be taking the field for the national anthem until he feels better about “the direction of this country”. Kapler’s statement had a ripple effect through the country and Major League Baseball.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who also addressed the unsettling events, came out in support of Kapler’s decision (quotes via OCR’s Bill Plunkett).
“I respect Gabe’s decision. He’s very passionate about things he believes in and that’s his way of protesting. … I hear what he’s doing…I’m not happy with what’s going on.
