Very few broadcasters last even 20 years with a team, let alone 30 or 40. Dodgers fans have been spoiled for basically their entire time in Los Angeles, having Vin Scully from 1950 through 2016 and Jaime Jarrín from 1959 until … well, that’s the sad part. Jarrín will be retiring following this season after 64 years in L.A.’s Spanish-language broadcast booth.
For Spanish speaking Dodger fans, Jarrín has been every bit as meaningful as Scully was, providing a connection to their team and a bridge between generations of fans.
Comedian George Lopez grew up in one of those Spanish-speaking, Dodgers-loving families, and he wrote a tribute to Jarrín in Variety.
