A couple of weeks ago, the Dave Roberts police was out in force after the Dodgers manager tried to send Zach McKinstry, a position player, to the mound with his team trailing the Mets 9-4. However, the move was oversight on Roberts’ part since position players cannot pitch unless a team is trailing by six or more runs per MLB rules. The umpires barred the Dodger skipper from making the substitution and Doc detractors had a field day.
AM570’s David Vassegh revisited the moment in a recent interview with Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen. Vassegh let his thoughts be known on the whole idea of having a position player pitch.
