The Dodgers acquired their former catcher from the Blue Jays on Friday morning. Russell Martin, who played his first five seasons with LA, returns nearly a decade after he left.
The Blue Jays are expected to pay roughly $16-18 million of the $20 million is he owed in 2018.
In the deal, LA sends minor-leaguers Ronny Brito and Andrew Sopko.
Martin, 35, hit .194 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 2018. His OPS of .663 was the lowest of his career.
Drafted by the Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2002 MLB draft, Martin made his big-league debut in 2006.
