Today, Mike Piazza will be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame along with Ken Griffey Jr. It's quite an honor, especially for a player drafted in the 62nd Round of the 1988 Amateur Baseball Draft. The often told story is Piazza was drafted as a favor to Piazza's father, a long time friend of Tommy Lasorda.
The backstory is interesting but doesn't tell the entire story. Mike Piazza worked hard to make it to the big leagues. As a lifetime Dodger fan, we heard the stories of minor league players with the 'can't miss' label for years.
